How to read a destiny matrix chart: points, lines and the order of reading

A destiny matrix chart is read by position, not by a single number: first see which point an arcana stands in, then which energy it is and whether it shows in its plus or its minus. Start with the personal square (day, month, year, bottom corner and centre), then move to money and relationships, the purposes and the family square. Below: the whole chart, the reading order and a worked example for 23.06.1992.

Key facts
  • A destiny matrix chart is two squares: the diagonal, personal square describes a person's own tasks, and the straight, family square describes what came down the father's and mother's lines.
  • The same number is read differently in different points, so you find the position first and the energy second.
  • Each of the 22 arcana shows in a plus and in a minus; the energy of the bottom corner, point D, is always in its minus at birth.
  • A reading usually starts with point A, the person's resource, or with the karmic tail, then moves to the centre, money, relationships and the purposes.
  • The three energies on one line work together, so a line is read as a set of three, not as three separate numbers.

How a destiny matrix chart is built

The chart is two squares laid over each other, one diagonal and one straight, forming an eight-pointed star. Numbers from 1 to 22 stand in the corners, on the lines and in the centre, and each is one of the Major Arcana. Everything is worked out by addition; a number above 22 is reduced by adding its digits.

The diagonal square is the personal one: its corners come straight from the date of birth, its centre from their sum. The straight square is the family square: its corners come from neighbouring personal corners and show what a person received through the father's and the mother's line. So the chart has two halves: karma a person made themselves and karma received by being born into their family.

  • Personal square: points A (day), B (month), C (year), D (bottom corner) and the centre.
  • Family square: four corners, the family force (their sum) and two diagonals, the father's and the mother's line.
  • The cross: the horizontal earth line from A to C and the vertical sky line from B to D.
  • Inner points: two on each line between corner and centre, making a set of three with the corner.
  • The wellbeing line: from the money entry to the love entry, with the balance point in the middle.
  • The age scale: around the edge the corners stand for years of life, from 0 at point A to 70 at the lower left corner.

The five main points and what each one answers

The personal square is read first: it holds character, resource and the main tasks. One arcana sounds different in different points. The Sun in the day of birth describes a bright organiser; the same Sun in the year speaks of a force that can warm or burn.

A check: if point C equals the centre, one reading says the centre shows in its minus.

  • Point A, day of birth: the portrait, a person's “calling card”, the brightest personal energy and the main resource in hard times. It usually shows in its plus; in its minus the person loses that support.
  • Point B, month of birth: the link with the higher forces, the guardian angel, creativity and intuition. Through it a person is supported and guided; it counts as the most positive energy in the chart and turns negative when attention moves entirely to material things.
  • Point C, sum of the year's digits: the task of the soul and material karma. Money and health come through it. If it stays in its minus for long, money suffers first, then health.
  • Point D, bottom corner (A + B + C): the main task, an energy from past lives, always in its minus at birth. A weakness that becomes a strength once a person works on it.
  • Centre (A + B + C + D): the comfort zone and centre of personal strength, what the soul strives for all life and the energy society reads a person through. In its minus recognition, good income and contact with people come hard.

Sky and earth lines, father's and mother's lines

The sky line runs vertically from point B through the centre to point D: spiritual life, the link with the guardian angel, what a person needs to understand in this life. The earth line runs horizontally from point A through the centre to point C: money, savings, the body's health. The sky number is B + D, the earth number A + C. Together they make a cross, and the main task is to join the spiritual and the material into one whole.

On the earth line, A to the centre holds childhood, and C to the centre leads to the material experience of this and past lives: until 40 a person works for that experience, after 40 it works for them.

The diagonals of the family square are the family lines: the father's from upper left to lower right, the mother's from upper right to lower left. Their upper points speak of the family's talents, the lower ones of traits it did not work through. The father's side is tied to success in society and keeping money, the mother's to inner calm, attracting money and relationships. The upper corners hold the family's spiritual karma, the lower ones its material karma.

The purposes come from the lines: personal (sky + earth, ages 20 to 40), social (father's + mother's line, 40 to 60), spiritual (personal + social, after 60, at work all life) and planetary (social + spiritual). Check: the spiritual purpose can only be 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 or 21.

Zones and channels: the set of three at each corner

From each corner two inner points run towards the centre: the one next to the centre is corner + centre, the one next to the corner is corner + that point. Each set of three has its own theme.

A key for any set: the corner answers “what is happening”, the point next to the centre “why”, and the remaining point shows where it leads. Read the minuses first, then what the person gains by bringing the energies into their plus.

The wellbeing line joins the money entry and the love entry. Its middle, the balance point, is their sum and shows how money and relationships affect each other and the main blocks in both. The money point (money entry + balance) tells how a person earns all life; the love point (love entry + balance) draws the fitting partner. The karmic tail opens this line, so working on it touches love and money at once.

The two Anahata points, between the centre and the nearest inner points of the earth and sky lines, add detail about relationships and the heart's wishes.

  • Set at point A: the parent and child line. Relations with parents and one's own children, and what a person came to learn from their parents.
  • Set at point B: the talent zone. The gift from above, intuition, inspiration, spiritual tasks.
  • Set at point C: material karma. The corner shows what blocks earning; the point next to the centre is the money entry, what to attend to for money to come.
  • Set at point D: the karmic tail. The baggage of past lives and partnerships; its point next to the centre is also the love entry.

How to find the points of the chart by hand

The calculator on this page does the same sum step by step, so it is easy to check.

  1. Write the day of birth in the left corner of the diagonal square: point A. If it is above 22, add its digits: 23 gives 5, 29 gives 11.
  2. Write the month in the top corner: point B.
  3. Add the digits of the year and write the result in the right corner: point C, reduced again if above 22.
  4. Bottom corner D = A + B + C; centre = A + B + C + D.
  5. Corners of the straight square: upper left A + B, upper right B + C, lower right C + D, lower left D + A. Their sum is the family force.
  6. On each line find the point next to the centre (corner + centre) and the point next to the corner (corner + that point).
  7. Balance point = money entry + love entry; the middle of each channel = its entry + balance.
  8. Lines: sky B + D, earth A + C, father's line upper left + lower right, mother's line the other two corners. The purposes come from these.
  9. Check the date again: one wrong digit changes the whole chart.

Social purpose · 40–60father + mother11 · Strength

The sum. The day, 23, is above 22, so A = 2 + 3 = 5, the Hierophant. Month B = 6, the Lovers. Year: 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21, so C = 21, the World. D = 5 + 6 + 21 = 32 → 5, the Hierophant again. Centre: 5 + 6 + 21 + 5 = 37 → 10, the Wheel of Fortune.

Family square: upper left 11, upper right 9, lower right 8, lower left 10. Family force 38 → 11; whole force (centre + family force) 10 + 11 = 21. Inner points: at A, 15 next to the centre and 20 next to the corner; at B, 16 and 22; at C, 4 and 7; at D, 15 and 20. Anahata points: 7 on the earth line, 8 on the sky line.

Steps 1 to 3. Point A holds the Hierophant, the energy of law, rules and tradition: what the person leans on in hard times. The month holds the Lovers, so support from above comes through the energy of relationship. The centre is the Wheel of Fortune: the comfort zone is tied to flow, and people read this person through it.

Step 4, repeats. The Hierophant stands in both A and D: one energy is the resource and the main task, support in its plus, the lesson in its minus. The 5 also appears in the money point and at ages 0 and 60, so it is read first. The Sun (19) appears four times: balance point, father's line, mother's line, personal purpose. Strength (11) repeats in the upper left corner, family force, sky line and social purpose.

Step 5, the mirror. The karmic tail reads 15-20-5: the point next to the centre, the point next to the corner, the bottom corner. The parent and child line from A gives the same 5, 20, 15. A mirror chart: the lessons of the tail and of parents and children run through the same energies, the Devil, Judgement and the Hierophant, doubled, and so is the resource once worked through.

Step 6, money and love. Money entry 4, the Emperor; money point 5; balance 19, the Sun; love point 7, the Chariot; love entry 15, the Devil. The love entry is also the tail's first point, so work on the tail touches relationships at once. Point C, the World, shows what blocks earning when it is in its minus.

Step 7, lines and purposes. Sky 6 + 5 = 11, earth 5 + 21 = 26 → 8. Father's line 11 + 8 = 19, mother's line 9 + 10 = 19: the same number on both, so the two families' tasks are alike. Personal purpose 19, social 38 → 11, spiritual 30 → 3, which passes the check. Planetary 11 + 3 = 14, Temperance.

Step 8, time. Age scale: 5 at 0, 11 at 10, 6 at 20, 9 at 30, 21 at 40, 8 at 50, 5 at 60, 10 at 70. At 40 the World comes into focus, the energy of point C, just when material experience starts working for the person.

In what order to read the chart

An order keeps you from drowning in thirty numbers. First settle the main question (money, love, children, finding yourself): it decides the focus, and its wording often hints at which energy is in its minus.

Each energy is read the same way: its plus, its minus, then an honest answer about where it is now. A plus is reinforced so the person notices leaving that resource; for a minus you look for what brings it back.

  • Point A. Show the person's strength before the tasks. If even the resource is in its minus, expect many minuses across the chart.
  • Point B. Support from above; in its minus it shuts off the other energies, so read it early.
  • Centre. How a person shows up among people and where they feel at ease.
  • Point D and the karmic tail. Some practitioners start here, because the tail opens the wellbeing line.
  • Point C and the wellbeing line: love entry, love point, money entry, money point, balance point.
  • The parent and child line and the talent zone.
  • The purposes by age: personal, social, spiritual, planetary.
  • The family square, family force and family lines, best used as a hint for a specific question.
  • On request: the health map (watch the chakra in its minus), the age scale, the remaining sets.

How to tell whether an energy is in its plus or minus

Every arcana is present in both its plus and its minus, and the balance shifts through life with thoughts, actions, stress and meetings with people of the same arcana. An energy is neither good nor bad; the minus is there so that something changes. Nobody stays in the plus all the time.

The area a point governs tells you its state. If results there are far from what you want, the energy is most likely in its minus. Short of money, in debt, hit by sudden costs: look at the money line. Relationships fail: look at the love line. Ask yourself honestly whether you are happy with that area.

Then pick the area that matters most, study its energies and rate from 1 to 10 how well their tasks are done. That turns analysis into steps: carry out the karmic task and the advice for your arcana; the method also offers a meditation for each code. There is no fatalism here: any energy can move from minus to plus, gradually.

Repeats, mirrors and combinations of energies

A number that appears several times is read first: that energy shows more strongly, and people usually name its minus first. A repeat can also mean several attempts in one area, the last of which most often works.

A chart where facing sets of three repeat is a mirror chart. The same numbers in the karmic tail and another set mean double lessons and, once worked through, a double resource. A match between the father's and mother's lines says the two families' tasks are alike. It calls for attention, not alarm.

If a number on a family line matches point A, B or C, what the ancestors could not handle was passed on, and that energy arrives in its minus, to be worked through. If a number is missing from the chart, one reading says that energy is in balance.

Ready descriptions of combinations point the way but do not replace reading each energy; practice shows how they complete each other.

Common mistakes in reading the chart

Most wrong readings come from the sum or from reading a point out of context.

  • Subtracting 22 instead of adding digits. Some online calculators do this, and the chart comes out different.
  • Reading a number without its position. Place first, arcana second.
  • Reading a line's three numbers one by one: they work together.
  • Fearing the minus in point D. Everyone has it at birth; it is a task, not a sentence.
  • Expecting predictions. The energies by age point to good periods for a career, marriage or a child, but whether it happens depends on how the person lives those energies.
  • Reading a child's chart like an adult's. For a child: the parent and child line, resource, talents and comfort zone, without purposes or karmic tail; from 14 in full, if the child wants it.
  • Ignoring a changed date. A person lives by both dates, more strongly by the passport one, so two charts are made.
  • Calculating someone's chart without consent. Public figures are the exception.
  • Expecting a reading to replace work on a deep problem. The chart is a diagnosis and a road map; for serious childhood trauma the method itself advises a psychologist.

Other guides

The money line in the Destiny Matrix entry, career and balance

The money line, or money channel, is three points on the wellbeing line in the lower right part of the chart: the entry to the money line, the point under the $ sign and the balance point. The entry shows how money comes into your life and what blocks it, the $ point shows the field where income and enjoyment of the work go together, and the balance point links money with relationships. Read the line together with the year of birth, where it starts.

The love line in the Destiny Matrix entry, balance and the portrait of a partner

The love line is three points in the lower right part of the chart: the entry to the love line, the balance point and the love point marked with a heart. Together they show which mistakes in love you need to correct, how your relationships and your money affect each other and what kind of partner suits you. All of it comes from your date of birth alone.

Your purpose in the Destiny Matrix four numbers and how to read them

In the Destiny Matrix your purpose is not one number but four: personal (from 20 to 40), social (from 40 to 60), spiritual (decisive after 60 but at work all life) and planetary. All four are worked out from the sky and earth lines and the father's and mother's lines, and the spiritual purpose doubles as a check: it can only be 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 or 21.

Ancestral lines in the destiny matrix the father's line, the mother's line and the family force

Ancestral programs are read from the straight square of the chart, called the family square: the diagonal from its upper left corner is the father's line, the other diagonal is the mother's line, and the sum of its four corners is the family force. Next to the birthday point sits the parent-child channel. Below: how to find each point by hand, how to read them together, and a full worked example.

The talent zone in the Destiny Matrix how to find and read your talents

The talent zone of the Destiny Matrix is three points at the top of the chart: the month of birth (point B) and the two points on the sky line between it and the centre. Added to them are the talents passed down the father's and mother's lines, the two top corners of the family square. Below: how to calculate them, the order to read them in and what to do with the result.

The Destiny Matrix health chart seven chakras, body, energy and emotions

The Destiny Matrix health chart is a table of seven chakras worked out from your date of birth, using the points on the earth line and the sky line. Each chakra gets three numbers, body, energy and emotions, and they show which energies in their minus affect the organs of that zone. The total row at the bottom shows the energies behind whole systems of the body.

Questions people ask

How do I read a destiny matrix chart as a beginner?

Start with the personal square: point A (day), point B (month), the centre, point D and point C. For each point read the arcana's meaning in that exact position, plus first, then minus, and note honestly what fits you now. Then move to the wellbeing line, the purposes and the family square. Ready descriptions give direction; the whole picture comes with practice.

What does each point in the destiny matrix mean?

Point A is the portrait and resource, point B the link with the higher forces and talents, point C the task of the soul through which money and health come, point D the main karmic task, and the centre the comfort zone. The family square shows the father's and mother's legacy, the wellbeing line money and love, and the sets at the corners cover parents and children, talents, material karma and the karmic tail.

Which point should a destiny matrix chart interpretation start with?

Most often with point A: it is the resource, and it makes sense to see a person's strength before their tasks. The other option is to start with point D and the karmic tail, because the tail opens the wellbeing line and working on it touches love, money and the main task of the soul. Whichever comes first, the other follows right after.

How do I know if an energy is in its plus or minus?

Look at the area the point governs. If results there are far from what you want, the energy is most likely in its minus: debt and constant shortage of money point to the money line, failures in love to the love line. Ask yourself honestly whether you are happy with that part of life and rate it from 1 to 10. The state changes over a lifetime.

What does it mean if a number repeats in my chart?

A repeated energy shows more strongly than the others, and its minus needs attention first. A repeat can mean several attempts to succeed in one area. If whole sets of three match, for example the karmic tail and another set, the chart is called a mirror chart: the lessons come double, and so does the resource once they are worked through. It is no reason to worry.

What are the sky line and the earth line in the destiny matrix?

They are the cross of the personal square. The sky line is vertical, from point B to point D, and covers spiritual life and the link with the higher forces; its number is B + D. The earth line is horizontal, from point A to point C, and covers material life, money and health; its number is A + C. The two added together give the personal purpose for ages 20 to 40.

Where are money and love in the destiny matrix chart?

On the wellbeing line. The money entry is point C plus the centre, the love entry is point D plus the centre. Their sum is the balance point, shared by money and relationships. The money point is the money entry plus the balance and speaks of work and profession; the love point is the love entry plus the balance and describes the fitting partner.

Can the destiny matrix predict events?

No, the method is not meant for prediction: it shows what is laid down in a person. The energies on the age scale show which periods suit a career, marriage or a child, but whether the event happens depends on the person and how they live their energies. The age energies do not switch on at a birthday; they flow gradually from one period into the next.

Why do people with the same date of birth have different lives?

Their potential is the same, but one may live an energy in its plus and the other in its minus. That depends on karmic baggage, family, parents, surroundings and how far a person trusts their intuition. Just as two identical cars become different after a year with different owners, people born on the same day grow more unlike each other with age.

How do I read a child's destiny matrix chart?

A child's chart uses the same formulas and is read at a parent's request. First the parent and child line, then the resource in point A, talents and the comfort zone, and the money point if wanted. A child's purposes and karmic tail are not read: that is work a person does on their own. From 14, if the child wants it, the chart is read in full.
