The money line in the Destiny Matrix: entry, career and balance

Where the money line sits on the chart

In the lower right part of the chart, between the right corner (the year of birth, point C) and the bottom corner (point D), runs the wellbeing line. Two signs are usually drawn above it: a heart and a dollar sign. The right half of the line is the money line, the left half is the love line. In the middle sits a point that belongs to both halves at once; it is called the balance point or the guardian angel of wellbeing.

The money line holds three energies. The first is the entry to the money line: it stands on the diagonal from the year of birth, close to the centre, where the material karma of the past life meets the finances of this one. The second is the balance point, where money meets relationships. The third, central one sits under the $ sign and is worked out from the other two. Some authors call it the point of profession and success, others the field of work or the central point of the money line.

This zone does not answer “how much money will I have”. It answers where money comes from, what work you enjoy earning it with, what blocks the flow and what part of your income should be spent on so that the energy keeps moving. How large a flow a person can let through depends, in the method, on how open their energy conduction is, that is, whether the energies of the line are in their plus or their minus.

How to calculate the money line by hand

Every point of the line is built from numbers already present in the main chart. The rule is the same as everywhere in the system: if a sum is above 22, add its digits (31 → 3 + 1 = 4). Do not subtract 22, or you get a different chart.

1. Find the year of birth C: add all the digits of the year and reduce the number to 22 or less if needed.
2. Find the bottom corner D = A + B + C and the centre E = A + B + C + D, where A is the day of birth and B the month.
3. Entry to the money line: c1 = C + E.
4. Entry to the love line: d1 = D + E.
5. Balance point: c1 + d1.
6. Point under the $ sign: c1 + the balance point.
7. To complete the picture, work out the material karma point c2 = C + c1: it sits between the year of birth and the entry to the money line.

The entry: how money comes in and what holds it back

The entry to the money line answers how money best enters a person’s life. It also shows how the person earned in a past life and which mistakes they made with money. That is why you can start choosing your work by the arcana in this point, especially early in a career, but it has to be brought into its plus. Otherwise income goes into paying off old mistakes and slips through your fingers.

When the entry is in its minus, money feels short: it is hard to earn the sum you need or hard to keep it. One author calls this point simply the money block. In her description it hides negative beliefs, fears and self-sacrifice. Once a person has worked through the main material task (the year of birth), this block becomes the next obstacle: irrational fears and a wrong attitude to material things. Working through it is what opens the wellbeing line.

On the health map the same number stands at svadhisthana on the earth line. One book therefore calls the entry the “partners and money” entry: whether this energy is in its plus or minus decides whether a person attracts or repels both money and business partners. The centre of the chart, in turn, matches manipura, which is linked with big money, status and social recognition.

• In the plus: money arrives by a clear route and stays; the person knows their strengths in earning.
• In the minus: shortage, debt, a feeling that money leaks away, the same failures repeating in the same field.
• The first question when money is tight: what state are the entry to the money line and the year of birth in.

The point under the $ sign: career and where to invest

The central energy of the line is the main indicator of the field where a person can have a large flow of money and where work brings both income and pleasure. It points the way for the main source of income and for an extra one. It is also called the point of a long-term relationship with money: it shows how and with what to earn all your life, not only at the start.

This point has a second job. The method describes the flow of money as a cycle: abundance gives you a resource, but the vessel has to be filled back. So part of what you earn should go into the field of your central energy. If Strength stands under the $ sign, for example, sport and construction suit you, and part of the money then goes into your body and health or into property. With The Hierophant there, money is best spent on knowledge and study.

The numbers on the money line describe not only professions but also the people money comes through. If the same arcana stands in the date of birth of your mother or father, and later of a partner or a child, financial support can come from them too. In the plus this is help and a shared business; in the minus it is material dependence, living on alimony or someone else’s benefit.

Two technical notes. In this point the eighth and eleventh arcana are best read together, choosing the description that fits the person better. The first and second arcana hardly ever appear under the $ sign: they usually fall on the day and the month of birth.

Example: the money line for 23 June 1992

Take 23 June 1992. Day A = 5, month B = 6, year C = 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21. Bottom corner D = 5 + 6 + 21 = 32 → 3 + 2 = 5. Centre E = 5 + 6 + 21 + 5 = 37 → 3 + 7 = 10.

Entry to the money line: c1 = C + E = 21 + 10 = 31 → 4, The Emperor. Entry to the love line: d1 = D + E = 5 + 10 = 15, The Devil. Balance point: 4 + 15 = 19, The Sun. Point under the $ sign: 4 + 19 = 23 → 5, The Hierophant. For comparison, the middle of the love line is 15 + 19 = 34 → 7, and the material karma point c2 = 21 + 4 = 25 → 7, The Chariot.

Read right to left. The year of birth, 21 (The World), gives the strength to move forward and widen your horizons; its minus is clinging to the past and fear of stepping outside familiar walls. The material karma key 21 – 7 – 4 speaks of past experience of movement, leadership and management, which now helps this person settle into work quickly.

The entry, 4 (The Emperor), shows that harshness and total control block the flow, and a lack of independence can be a second cause of the block. Money comes more easily when strength is combined with mercy and the person answers for their own decisions. This is the first point to work on.

The $ point is 5 (The Hierophant): income through knowledge, structure, order and official status. Education and mentoring, courses, law, work with documents and figures, and counselling suit this person. There is more money when they share knowledge and take on students, and less when they fear competition. Part of the income is best spent on learning, their own and other people’s.

The balance point, 19 (The Sun), asks for balance between work and rest: workaholism, reproaching a partner and losing heart after a first failure push it into its minus and hit money and relationships at once. The centre, 10 (Wheel of Fortune), adds the background: comfort for this person means prosperity and the feeling that life carries them along in the flow, and in the minus, waiting for others to act.

The reading in short: first soften control and take responsibility (entry 4), then build work on knowledge and teaching (point 5), and keep work and rest in balance (19).

The balance point: money and relationships

The balance point stands where the money line crosses the love line, so it governs both areas. How relationships go affects the flow of money, and the other way round. When this energy is in its plus, both areas usually go well; when it is in its minus, both suffer. If finances and personal life are clearly out of balance (work eats the family, or a partner gets in the way of earning), this is the point to check first.

On the money line the balance point shows extra qualities that, in their plus, increase income, and also how a couple can grow rich or poor together. Arcana 20 here, for example, often points to a family business or to a profession already present in your family or your partner’s. On the love line the same point describes the setting where you are most likely to meet a partner, once the entry to the love line has been worked through.

It is also described as the point of problems in relationships and of blocked finances, shared by love karma and money karma. A money reading without the balance point is incomplete, and the $ point cannot be read correctly without it, since it is calculated from it.

The year of birth and material karma

The money line starts at the right corner of the chart. The year of birth (point C) is called the point of the soul’s task and of unresolved material tasks from past lives: money and health come through it. If its energy is lived in its minus for a long time, the method says finances suffer first, and if the lesson is still not learned, health follows. When a person sees the problem and works on it, the block gradually lifts, the flow of money opens and health improves alongside.

Around the year of birth sits the material karma key: C, c2 and c1. It is read as the money line of a past life, with the same arcana meanings. The key shows which skills a person already has and in which profession they will settle in quickly, so it helps when it is unclear what work to take up. But income by this key, as described, covers only basic needs, and in time the field should change to the one the $ point shows.

The largest energy of the key (the year of birth) is called the energy of repeating events. It shows the scenario that keeps bringing a person back to the same money situation, and the traits to change to break the circle. The energies of material karma start in their minus, so they are worked through from the big circle to the small one, right to left: C, then c2, then c1. One book describes c2 as what the person loved to spend money on in the past and what they made sacrifices for; another as the soul’s material tasks up to the age of 40.

There is a wider background as well. The earth line (day plus year) describes everything material: home, body and the flow of money. A centre in its minus makes it hard to reach large incomes and recognition. These points are not part of the line, but they explain why money stays scarce even with a good money line.

How to open the money line

Nothing in the method is fixed: any energy can move from its minus into its plus. Opening the money line means bringing the energies money flows through into their plus, one by one. The order the authors rely on is: the year of birth first, then the entry to the money line, then the $ point and the balance point. If the field of work is right but money is still short, go back to the year of birth and the entry.

The work with each point is the same. First read the minus of the arcana and note honestly which of it is in your life now. Then read the plus and the advice and pick concrete actions. With The Emperor at the entry, for example, that means giving up total control and solving your own problems yourself; with The Hierophant under the $ sign, passing knowledge on to students and learning new things.

Your attitude to money is part of the work too. In the method money is energy and a tool for reaching goals, a measure of exchange between people. Treated this way, it comes easily and from several sources; put money above everything, and, as described, the flow does not give what is needed. Hence the practical advice: put part of your income regularly into the field of your $ point, and watch the balance point so that work does not wreck relationships.

• Work through the year of birth: see the repeating money scenario and the trait that sets it off.
• Bring the entry to the money line into its plus: find your fears, self-sacrifice and beliefs about money.
• Choose work by the $ point (at the start, the material karma key will do) and put part of your income into that field.
• Keep the balance point in its plus: do not sacrifice relationships for money, and do not let relationships block earning.

Common mistakes when reading the money line

Most mistakes come not from the meaning of an arcana but from reading a point on its own or calculating it wrongly.

• Subtracting 22 instead of adding digits: with a sum of 31 the entry comes out as 9 instead of 4, and the whole line belongs to someone else.
• Reading only the $ point and skipping the entry: the profession may be right, but money does not stay while the entry and the year of birth are in their minus.
• Treating material karma arcana as “bad”: they are in their minus from birth as a task, and in their plus they give experience and skills.
• Staying all your life in work chosen by the material karma key: it is good for a start, but the income ceiling there is low.
• Forgetting the balance point: an imbalance between work and relationships hits both.
• Expecting that knowing the arcana will open the line by itself: what changes in the method is the state of the energy, and that takes action.
• Mixing up the eighth and eleventh arcana because of decks with a different order: in the Destiny Matrix 8 is Justice and 11 is Strength.
